Romeoville grew up fast. In 1957, wetlands along Route 53 became Hampton Park, where prefabricated ranch and split-level homes went up almost overnight — ten could be assembled in a single day. Homebuilding stalled for years, then Pine Trails restarted it in 1987, followed by Poplar Ridge and Lakewood Estates. Through the 1990s and 2000s, the village pushed west of Weber Road with New Traditional subdivisions. The result is a Will County town of many eras: 1950s ranches, 1980s townhomes, and turn-of-the-century two-stories, all within a few miles of the Des Plaines River.
