Shorewood grew up along the DuPage River, starting as a cottage community near Grinton Grove before the subdivisions arrived. Camelot went up in the 1970s. River Oaks West and Hunt Club followed in the 1990s, then River Crossing and Rollingwood in the early 2000s, Fields of Shorewood after 2006, and Edgewater, Hidden Creek, and Lake Forrest through the mid-2010s. Del Webb's Shorewood Glen brought a 55-plus community. The wide streets run colonial to Tudor, and Hammel Woods still hugs the river at the village's edge.
