Oak Lawn is a post-war town through and through. The village boomed after 1949 as G.I.-Bill families moved in, and most of the homes are 1950s and '60s brick ranches, Cape Cods and split-levels on tree-lined parkways across the 60453. It's densely built, with little vacant land, so the work here is almost always replacement and renovation on solid older homes — not new construction.
Oak Lawn is part of Excel's own history. After starting the business out of a garage, we opened our first storefront here in 1985. The Oak Lawn location remained a company home base until 2014, when it and the Glendale Heights showroom consolidated in Tinley Park. On a tight Oak Lawn lot near Columbus Manor or the redeveloped 95th Street downtown, we measure each home, fit replacement windows and ProVia doors to the original openings, and back the work with the same crews job after job.
