La Grange grew up along the Burlington tracks in the 1870s, and it still looks the part. The La Grange Village Historic District takes in more than a thousand buildings — Queen Anne, Victorian, and Prairie School homes, three of them Frank Lloyd Wright designs — most built before 1930. The village keeps two BNSF Metra stops, La Grange Road and Stone Avenue, a downtown anchored by the restored 1925 La Grange Theatre, and a Pet Parade tradition dating to 1947. South of 47th Street the housing turns postwar: Sedgewick Park and Country Club filled in with single-family homes from the 1940s through the 1960s.
