Evanston is the southern anchor of the North Shore, and its housing shows every layer of that history. Queen Annes and Victorians fill the Lakeshore Historic District along the southeast lakefront, while the 1873 Grosse Point Lighthouse anchors the northeast corner near Northwestern. Italianate and Prairie-style homes line the glacial ridge that gave the Ridge Historic District its name. Inland, the 1900–1930 building boom left brick bungalows, Foursquares, and Colonial Revivals block after block, plus brick walk-ups near the three Metra stops at Central Street, Davis Street, and Main Street.
