A railroad town that boomed with O'Hare
Bensenville grew up along the Milwaukee Road — the Metra Milwaukee District West line still stops right on Main Street — and it boomed when O'Hare did. Most of the town's housing went up between the 1940s and the 1960s: ranches and bungalows in subdivisions like Mohawk Manor, built out west of Busse Road between 1949 and 1960. Population jumped from under 2,000 in 1930 to more than 16,000 by 1980.
