Onyx or acrylic: how to pick your shower surface

By Chris · April 15, 2026

When folks come into the showroom for a shower remodel, the first real decision usually isn’t the color or the fixtures. It’s the surface. We install two solid-surface lines: the Onyx Collection and BCI acrylic. Both are good. They’re just different, and the right one depends on your bathroom and what you care about.

A note before we get into it: both are solid surface. The bigger choice in a remodel isn’t solid surface versus acrylic — it’s solid surface versus tile, and we install only solid surface. No grout to scrub, no resealing, no re-grouting five years in. That part’s settled either way.

Here’s how we’d explain the two options at your kitchen table.

The Onyx Collection

Onyx is crushed marble bound in resin. The walls and the pan are molded to your space, so there are no seams where mold likes to hide, and no grout at all. It’s heavier, it feels solid, and it carries a lifetime product warranty plus our 5-year labor warranty.

People pick Onyx when they want the seamless look, a custom size, or a finish that’s going to last decades without fussing over it. It’s the higher end of what we do, and it shows.

BCI acrylic

BCI acrylic is a proven solid-surface line that’s been in bathrooms for a long time for good reason. It’s lighter, it’s easy to clean, and it comes in plenty of patterns. It also lands at a more accessible price point and carries a 25-year limited lifetime product warranty plus our 5-year labor warranty.

People pick BCI acrylic when they want a clean, low-maintenance shower that looks great and fits the budget a little easier.

How we help you decide

We bring samples of both to your consultation so you can see and feel them in your own light, next to your own tile and fixtures. We’ll tell you honestly which one fits your space and your goals. We’re not going to push you toward the pricier option to pad a number — referrals and repeat customers are most of our business, and that only works if we steer you right.

Same crews handle the install either way. Francisco’s been with us for years on bath, and the faces you meet at the consultation are the ones who finish the job.

If you’re thinking about a shower remodel, come see both surfaces or book a free in-home consultation. We’ll measure, we’ll bring samples, and we’ll leave you with a clear written proposal — not a pitch.

Let's talk about your project.
